Released in 2012 through the German label Exile On Mainstream Records, “To Forget” is the fourth studio album from the Minneapolis-based US band A WHISPER IN THE NOISE. For this album, the band were a duo of West Thordson and Sonja Larson sharing vocals and all instruments. The music is a sort of decadence Post-Folk presenting somber and melancholic, mid-tempo mélange of dark ambiances, white noises, subtle acoustic and electric strings, jangling chimes, hollow drums, delicate keyboards, and dreamy male-female vocals. The singing is mellow, sad, and somewhat prophetic showcasing pleasantly harmonious passages whether solo or in duet. The production is really clean – to my taste, even a bit too sharp and crispy at points. This would be the main complaint with the record. But overall, “To Forget” is a very enjoyable lyrical album of strange beauty, with the atmosphere that evokes a dramatic sense of loneliness and solitude while still leaving room for the hope.
