“I Am Gonna Beat Dis” opens with one of the dirtiest basslines in 80s dance music--the synth is modulated to sound like a snarling cyborg pit bull. Though the brutally pummeling drum machine programming steers the track in the direction of proto-hardcore madness, de Smet adds a staccato lead synth that serves double duty as a second bassline, bringing the track much closer to synthpop/EBM territory. The bizarre harmonics and chilly accent synths add a shade of melancholy to the cartoonishly whacked-out melodies. The rippling yet chunky modulation on the lead synth in the "chorus" sections sounds like karaoke night on an alien planet--there are precious few synth lines like this in electronic music aimed at the dancefloor.

It’s worth noting that there are 3 mixes of this track: the original, the 12” instrumental version, and the mini CD instrumental version. The best of the three mixes is the mini CD instrumental, which differs significantly from the instrumental mix on the 12”. The 12” version only removes some of the vocal samples and preserves the arrangement of the vocal mix. The version on the CD single omits almost all of the samples except during the breakdowns, transforming the track into a purely synth-driven odyssey. Moreover, the arrangement on the CD mix is ironically much more stripped down and floor-oriented than the 12” mix; the opening bassline and the lead synth line/second bassline aren’t layered as they are in the original but assigned to different sections of the track.
