I have heard of this group, but never before experienced their music, And to be entirely honest, I was very surprised by the style. I guess they fall into an area best described as moody Neo-Classical, although the music owes its genesis to turn of the century composers, with roots reaching back towards Medieval musics. Indeed, the people who we have come to regard as 20th Century composers show up not one iota on this music, yet it has a crisp freshness which places it right up to date. Track one is "Gebet" basing itself on deep tympani, sampled breathy sounds & a high tamborine sound, From there it takes a smooth organ sound, blended with vocal voices & synthesized trumpets. It. sounds a little like a more positive version of the Last Post, fleshed out into a full piece of music. "Erwachen Des Waldes" uses a combination of strings & piano (with a slight harpsichord twang), and later on calming vocal harmonies to create something slightly Medieval - it reminds me of a non-vocal, more studied & composed version of a ATARAXIA track. "Die Jagd Beginnt Gilles De Rais Remix" comes next, reminding me a little of the Christmas Carol "Ding Dong Merrily On High" taken at a tangent, with interesting percussive punctuation & some great horn section sounds, "Der Wald Versinkt In Schlaf" closes this EP - another which is similar to a well-known piece of music, but which one keeps at bay from memory. This one has moments of dark dischord, but never ventures beyond the dramatic into more severe areas, It has a huge sound to it, an ideal closing piece with it's dark semi-rhythmic bass sounds over which are built horn tunes & vocal harmonies, tubular bell carillons & cymbal splashes.

I know far, far too little about this group & feel hungry to know more. Sometimes this is like Chamber Music with the gaps filled in, sometimes like a light Tchaikovski, minimised without losing any of the clout. Purists will sneer at this modernised Chimera of Classical music, but we should pity them & seek out the album.
