Interesting record this one. The original press release creates high expectations when drawing comparisons between the band's unique sound and that of the great jazz revolutionaries of the 1940s. I must admit, my first reaction wasn't a good one. Surely, I thought, it's for the listener to decide. But after a while I had to admit, it's quite a good description. That this release didn't gain any traction, commercially or otherwise, may have more to do with the Acid Jazz crowd's preference for a beat when what we have here is more a musical innovation. So innovative in fact that I listened to the whole record twice at the wrong speed on my first listen. It was only when I came back to it a couple of days later thinking it couldnt possibly be that bad that I realised my mistake. So, expect something unusual from Prop (143 BPM) and Barboom (94 BPM), with Kucou being the more accessible tune.
