a tech house classic that I picked up on from a really positive review in the nme having previously danced to numerous nights at heaven, he was the resident dj at the seminal techno night garage at heaven along with mrs. wood, completely different from his previous nrg outings, understated floaty trance like in parts goes beyond the 4/4 house techno template.

Why did I not buy this earlier?! The more I listen to it, the more I love it. Lots of bubbly acid synths, beats that make you want to dance and each track is a journey, something that is missing in today's dance music.
The single versions are quite different to the album.

I agree that this is a grossly overlooked album, not sure if it was for the singles Blu Peter had released before, marketing (or lack of), timing or the ugly cover (remember those digital organisers?) The best track is probably the un-relaxed Relax, however I really dig them all here. Each track has a mood of it's own, and despite the tempo changes each tracks flows smoothly into the other and keeps the mood going.

Sells for nuts, if you like Trance, Techno, House, Tech-House or anything in those waters you should really get this.

I agree with above description. This is a criminally overlooked album from 1999. I bought this in a bargain basement bin for 25p and it was a real joy. I think this album was mainly overlooked because previously Blu Peter had done some cheesy poppy trance tunes such as "pictures in your mind" which i hated. However, Widescreen & Digital is a much more sophisticated and underground album with lots of experimentation and originality, but subtle and well crafted at the same time.
The album encompasses funky and leftfield techno (think carl craig, black dog, planetary assualt systems), techno trance with acidic squelchyness, lush mellow ambient techno & breaks and deep tech-house. These descriptions are unfair however as it doesn't capture the feel of the album which is overall deep,genre-blurring, engrossing and times psychedelic and hypnotic, the use of female vocals in a couple of tracks is sparse, but when done is never cheesy or poppy rather subdued and distorted adding subtle nuances, sensuality and much needed layers of composition lacking from so much dance music. A great album which i can listen to day or night, and i hardly listen to techno and trance anymore (getting too old and bored by it), but this album keeps me interested throughout. The highlights for me are "0.7734", The wonderful "Relax", The tribal and psychedelic techno of "Biological Response", The beautiful chilled-out techno bliss of "Funky Suite", the Tribal Trance of "Blue Air" and the Spacy pumping Techno of "Demolition". If you like subtle & open-minded albums which will grow on you, then this is for you.

One of my favourite albums of all time. I had the pleasure of working on Blu Peter's website for the launch of this cd, and so kept listening to it again and again while working. Blu Peter came in for a lot of stick for not playing the "right" kind of music in (London) clubs during the late 1990's, and for going off at tangents after years of so many successful gigs in clubs like REACT's Garage at Heaven, FF and Melt at Turnmills. But when you listen to this album at home, in a car, on holiday off your face, or just getting ready to go out, you can't help but be awed by some of the tracks. I have since had the CD borrowed by friends who loved it too much, so I have no idea what the tracks are called anymore! ... although "Relax" is the best track on the album without a doubt - a soft seductive introduction lures you into a calm dream like state, only to throw you headlong into the most amazing trip 8 minutes in. TURN IT UP LOUD! ... Respect must be paid for this album... A stunning rollercoaster ride. Where is the remix album? We want more!

Blu Peter's first album. A mixture of funky techno and trance. The highlight of the album is 'Relax'... a real slamming track with a fantastic acid driven finale. I've seen Blu Peter DJ at the 'Return to the Source' club night in London. If you ever get the chance to hear him mix, then don't miss it!!! He rocked the club to it's foundations!
