BLUE BEAT,the music born in the steamy,sultry atmosphere of the clubs in Jamaica,has become part of the teenage scene in almost every discotheque in Western Europe.Its compelling rhythm is undoubtedly the outstanding factor of its popularity.The first time I was aware of BLUE BEAT,was when I was waiting for an artist to arrive on a banana-boat from the West Indies.As the immigrants came off the boat they were singing and dancing to this "new" sound, BLUE BEAT was going to be something very big.On this first album,"BLUE BEAT IN MY SOUL",we have married this hypnotic beat with the searching sound of soul. I discovered BLUE RIVERS, a young and talented exponent of both soul and BLUE BEAT, when he appeared at my BLUE BEAT SHOW at the Tiles Club ,London. This is his first album and I think he has completly captured the feel and mood of the music.My own favorite track is one of his own compositions "I'VE BEEN PUSHED AROUND". It sums up exactly the problems,hostilities and injusticies faced by him,and his people,when they first arrived in this country.
