Opening with the title track, 'Generation Retard' is quick to lay the cards on the table and show a hand raging with distaste for the manipulation of religion. Attacking those brainwashed by it, be them either suicide bombers, abusive priests or just the simple sheep who fall for TV preacher's cons 'Generation Retard' is a perfect introduction to what lays in store for the rest of the album. An album that itself was a labour intensive two years in the making. The completion of 'Generation Retard' has been hard at times but a labour of love that has been rewarded with a truly savage collection of songs. Songs that bite at the face of a twisted society rife with injustice and corruption like a pissed off pit-bull. With jaw clamped down it'll be another 50 minutes before the fighting dog grip is released as Steve Hansell's rough gravelled voice spits out lyrics like a sand blaster on overdrive. Targets like Nick Griffin, George W Bush and The Pope are all caught in the cross-hairs of The Disrupters' sights as 'Pissing In The Wind' sees a cyclone of riffs emanating from Steve "Killer Riffz!" Hardy before culminating in a break neck stop. In the blink of an eye the storm starts again, this time switching sights to doped up terrorist wife beaters in 'We Are The Taliban'.

Fellow Eighties Disrupter Prem Nick offers up a couple of spoken word pieces to the proceedings. 'Camilla Park Your Bowels' and 'Anne Widdecombe' are both humorous and potent sermon like poetic skits that fire punk rock vitriol broadside into their intended targets. Some (me) may argue that these skits seem excess to requirements, breaking the flow of gnarly aggression that's generated through the assault of riffs and lyrics of the main songs, but they do however provide some respite for those who need it from the relentless bludgeoning that is held within the selection of tracks The Disrupters have pulled together to form the majority of 'Generation Retard'. Personally I find tracks like the Baby P inspired 'Torture Room' or the corrosive 'Know The Enemy' far more effective at bringing attention to the flaws and faults within our misguided society than a quick witted 30 second skit about a "dowdy, down market Audrey Roberts".

Production wise 'Generation....' has a grainy, lowdown and dirty street level vibe that really brings the grooving killer riffs of 'We Are The Taliban' and the reflective 'Never Gave A Fuck' to life. The centrepiece of the album for me has to be the stunning 'Gimme Some Truth' with its addictive powerful bass line and steady menacing growl. Clocking in at just over six minutes it stands defiant in the face of anyone who thinks punk is just about smashing out a couple of chords in as many minutes with little or no discipline. Along with the like of 'Pissing In The Wind 'and 'Torture Room' this is where the two years of hard graft that went into 'Generation Retard' really shines through. Tracks that are deserving of a place in any punk collection. Raw, infectious and bang on the dirty money.
