Highlights aplenty on this splendid career overview of the Los Angeles-based hard rock unit, from the blistering "Breaking the Chains" and "In My Dreams" to the affecting ballad "Alone Again", there is no sonic gem left unrepresented on this collection, with every track hitting its intended target. Arranged in chronological order, each composition makes an impression as an essential cut from the era's pop metal scene, but in its entirety, the compilation demonstrates the evolution of the band's electrifying guitar-heavy sound, and since their albums were occasionally uneven, this 16-track assemblage registers on reflection as a propulsive, cohesive distillation of the band's main arsenal: Don Dokken's powerful vocals and George Lynn's exceptional fretwork. I would point to this CD, which is as clean-sounding and well-mastered as commercial rock can ever possibly be, as the best place to introduce yourself to one of the more proficient bands of the "hair metal" explosion during the 1980s.

As far as I know, this is the only way to get the song "Back for the Attack" on CD. All other versions are US released vinyl or cassette maxi-single.
