"I’ve now been following the work of Raub Roy (Horaflora) for a couple years and have been consistently amazed. His stuff really must be heard to be believed. Every release has matched aesthetic brilliance with sheer instrumentational chutzpa. “Craterellus Cornucopioides” is no exception, and may be his strongest recording to date. It is certainly his most spacious. Side A “Trumpet of Death” leaves a large primed canvas of silence to better display a buzzing sentient opus of clatter, scrapes, ratcheting clicks, and metallic grinding. Raub adds to this materiality a menagerie of animal-esque timbres that conjure birds, insects, and whales. Some moments indeed recall Douglas Quin’s great Arctic and Antarctic field recordings LP “Fathom.” Side B “Horn of Plenty” is slightly more frantic, with cuts in the sound arriving a bit more suddenly. On this side there are what appear to be more digital/electronic auditory sources at play- lots of squelches, bleeps, interference, crackle, and the like. Equally compelling though, and a nice compliment to the natural buzziness of the A side. Many curious noises abound- in all senses of the word curious and the most nuanced sense of the word noise. Horaflora releases are funhouses, ecosystems, amusement parks, telecommunications networks, atmospheres. Sometimes all at once. Get this record!"
