Dark class... A heavy tune which is probably more popular now than when it was released in 1993. Foul Play are behind this I believe - slick sounding & sample heavy. Nasty big beats & bass, chilled keys + chords plus the Robert Owens sample all combine to make one of the best jungle tunes about. This was battered by all the top DJ's at the time - no sh*t, it was immense. DJ Randall, Fabio, Hype all went in on this. Yes, it's very expensive to get the original but an impressive addition to any collection, especially if you play an old skool set.

I managed to get both tunes on "the centuries ascendance"compilation.paid £15 for it but I don't mind waking up the gains to get it in the mix with a "12. £15 well spent and also another killer unreleased on that is the wishdokta-visitation.it's onthe tube.top notch dark age ! !

The odd backwards synth sounds about 3 mins in, sound like they're from Ruhige Nervosität by Manuel Göttsching, or more like Sueno Latino which sampled it and more people would know but buggered if I can find the right 'bit'.

This is undoubtedly one of the best early jungle/D&B releases. Be prepared to pay - both versions are still very sought after. If you don't mind the odd pop or crackle, you can get a copy for between 50 -75 quid. If you want NM you are looking at a ton or possibly more in future. Absolutely essential for any D&B DJ, even now. The first in my record box definitely. Top work by Foul Play. One word - Legendary.

Besides the samples mentioned in other reviews, 'We Are The Future' also samples the theme from the TV show 'Twin Peaks', the sample is in the intro to the track and played in reverse.

The only single from Foul Play under this alias shall not be underestimated. Both sides are fantastic breakbeat pieces. "Drowning In Her" is a Jungle with a deep, intense atmosphere whose title was taken from Robert Owens lyrics on the House classic "Tears" by Frankie Knuckles & Satoshi Tomie (1989). The specific moment where Robert Owens sings "Regretting... Nothing but the pain, My heart, my life, my World is pure refrain... I'm drowning..." became the main inspiration for "Drowning In Her" by the Foul Play as 4 Horsemen Of The Apocalypse in 1993; the quote "I'm Drowning" was sampled, then played backwards on the sequence creating an illusionary expression "Drowning in her" ("Drowning" played in backwards sounds like "in'her"). "Drowning In Her" has amazing melodies, aesthetic chords and a powerful junglist percussion based on the Amen Breaks (sampled from The Winstons - Amen Brother, 1969). Another very interesting vocal sample appears just after "I'm drowning... in her": it's a male whispering in panic - "Ho...oow?" - taken from Think - Once You Understand, a very strange satirical song from 1971 which served exactly as the same source used on "Mr. Kirk's Nightmare" by 4 Hero (1990). On the B Side, the quote "We Are The Future" was taken from 'The Future Sound Of London - Central Industrial', a tune of their first album Accelerator, from 1991. On the original, the quote was "Welcome to Central Industrial. We are the future!" The Four Play producers sampled just the last sentence from it.

This is surely one of the deepest most intense tunes out there. Produced by the awesome Foul play under alias. Its a tune you would of heard played by the likes of Ltj Bukem, Grooverider and Randall back in 93 although it sounds light years ahead of time. I'd say its a bit of a hidden gem and I myself didnt identify it till recently due to the fact it came out on a less commercial label than most of there stuff. Stunning creepy pads, crisp amens, lovely warm sub bass then what makes the trck is the "I'm drowning in her" vocal. This track really is pure heaven and an essential tune for the collectors of oldskool jungle and drum & bass heads alike but be prepared to pay, its pretty rare and extremely sought after.
