According to the label scans I suppose the ATCO pressings are pure styrene hell? And due to the fact that ATCO is said to have been heavily involved in the styrene industry, these are probably a must to avoid? Anyone confirm?
Thanks for these insights! ... Really astounding its only a rough 50-75 relation? Would have thought at least double with the vinyl. Is it a special jukebox thing? Harder stylus or something?
Most of the styrene pressings were by Monarch Record Mfg. Co., identified by "MO" in the matrix number on the record labels for ATCO and Atlantic Records. I go by a general rule for styrene which is 50 plays maximum in a jukebox. Vinyl pressings last a little longer (about 75 plays) before you start to notice ware with popping and hissing sounds on the record. Specialty Records Corporation ("SP" in the label matrix) was pressing more vinyl records then styrene during the same time period through about 1973 or so. Hope this helps...
