Bola's Jello project delivers itself unto remixers on the LUNGBONE EP. The "Lungbone (Tongue Bone)" mix brings the funk up front, emphasizing the lyrics even more. The b-side, "Damask," is on more familiar Bola territory: a delicate melody weaved into an electronic fabric, complete with a strong rhythm to stitch it down. "Vibe-A-Rolla (Scump Mix)" slows that track down considerably, maintaining the choppy vocals, but emphasizing the mellowness of the funk instead, while "O'verb (Dualite Mix)" goes into house territory, jettisoning most of the vocals but keeping the bell-tones. "Conokut (Reconix Mix)" delves deeper, with some abstract breaks, and eventually slowing things to a growl. But the most surprising track, Autechre's take on "Neph," is unlike any other their other work. No crunchy beats, just a simple piano echoing in space. Quite moving.
