I wonder why the A side was cut at 45 rpm. That length would fill a whole side at 33 easily. At 45 the grooves are really shallow and crammed in there

in fact as it's longer than 12 minutes it might have made sense to switch to 33rpm for some (minor!) loss of loudness and bass.

Well, even by the guidelines provided by your preferred mastering service (from your link) how would you distribute the programming (and at what speeds) for a 12:42 and an 8:50 song? You could easily make the case that actually having both sides at 45 rpm would make for closer to optimal results, no? I think at 45 rpm there is actually better quality: more rotations = more dynamic range. Its typically the case on my 33s that the grooves are shallower but I'm actually not even sure about that. Is it that they shortened the song on the A side?
