I've always enjoyed this version, and I own the CD and the new remaster. I'm not saying it's better than those, but I am saying it's an enjoyable listen.

The new pressing by Shields cannot arrive in the mail fast enough. This was purchased along with "Isn't Anything" around 2007, and I've never been very satisfied with either album's sound quality. It's way too loud and therefore clips most of the time. Every song has occasional pops + crackles. The lows and highs feel artificially boosted, although this was apparently transferred from CD. Every criticism applies to "Isn't Anything" as well. By far not the worst records I own, but I've rarely genuinely enjoyed listening to these over the years and will be glad to swap them out for the newer, more official pressings.

This album is one of the greatest albums ever made. For anyone to settle for such a sub-par recording is just plain lazy. Some of you might not have a great setup to listen to a record on, and so for all of you, this is not a sub-par record. Those of us with serious investments in our setup, this is not a good record. But don't just take my word for it. Even Kevin Shields doesn't like it, which is why in January 2018, there will be a new pressing overseen by Kevin Shields himself, and it will be 100% analog. Because that's how it was supposed to be from the beginning.

This version doesn't hit hard on the low end but jams like hell on the mids and highs, and thats what this band is really about in my opinion. Sounds great.

Yep agreed...so glad I ignored all those saying it's awful. So yeah it's a digital transfer and I would perhaps like to hear a little more bottom end but overall it's absolutely fine. The pressing itself is very good with hardly any surface noise.

I have to agree I don't understand the hate this pressing gets. Took a chance on a copy at a local record store and it sounds fine to me. I can't imagine how the new pressing Shields is cutting could sound that much better

Going to be interesting to hear the comparison of this when the now announced Sheilds approved reissue hits the streets. Given the negativity around this press the new reissue better be stunning. I don't have an original vinyl version of this, but do have one of Isn't Anything, and I'm looking forward to hearing a vinyl Loveless that is "full fat".

Agreed with all comments that this pressing is not good. Sounds really thin on playback - which is super evident on my high-end studio monitors - and when compared to other re-issue records I own. Save your money and go for the original press. Wish I had read the reviews here before I purchased it as I paid a good sum. #lessonlearnt

this is one of my favorite albums of all time, and personally i kinda like the mastering of this record. obviously it is half-assed and they lost some information, not to mention the stereo field is all jacked from the analog to digital back to analog transfer game. but what it has going for it is a little high end flick that's sort of pleasing in the top end of the guitar, keys, snare, and especially vocal. does anyone else think that this print has a little more vocal than other versions, or care to comment at all about eq and whatnot? i don't own the original wax but have heard most all of the iterations of this album. caveat, i also love my cassette copy from the girl with pretty red handwriting that sat in my hot car for a few years...

I always thought the Plain Records vinyl reissue sounded like a copy of the original cd. I'll never buy anything from Plain Records again.
