Yeah. Here we go with a new Oasis album, as always eagerly anticipated. It was especially true in this case with 'The Shock Of The Lightening' being the first single; an absolutely storming tune which epitimises what Oasis are all about. Shame the rest of the album doesn't really live up to it. There's no blaming Liam though; the tunes he contributes are all decent especially the wonderful 'I'm Outta Time'- who cares if it's a tribute to Lennon or not, it's a memorable tune that will stick in your head and make you want to listen again and again.
From the top: 'Bag It Up' a decent start.
'The Turning' yeah, pretty good without blowing you away.
'Waiting For The Rapture'-the first Noel effort. I didn't like it on first listen but it grows on you.
'I'm Outta Time' well done Liam.
'High Horse Lady' is a poor effort by Noel and I'm suprised it made it onto the album, whereas the next tune
'Falling Down' is in stark contrast, classic Noel Gallagher and another Oasis classic.
The next song 'To Be Where There's Life' was originally an instrumental according to Gem Archer who penned it. Well it should've stayed that way as the vocals are strained and horrible. Not good.
'Aint Got Nothin'-decent filler and so to
'The Nature Of Reality' written by Andy Bell. It's ok but nothing like 'Keep The Dream Alive' from the previous album which was amazing. Better than Gem's effort though-I think he should stick to writing in tandem with Liam.
'Soldier On' is a little gem if you'll pardon the pun and the bonus track
'I Believe In All' is better than some of the tracks that made it onto the album.(As Liam said himself).
All in all not bad, but no way is this album close to the classic after classic of the first two albums and to a certain extent the third as well.
To do something on a par with those classic albums, Liam needs to sing all the songs and Noel needs to pen quality in place of mediocre Gem and Andy Bell stuff.
Fuck all the band members having to contribute,we want the best tunes and if that means Noel has to write all the songs that make it onto the album then so be it.(As long as he doesn't bloody sing!)
I'm out.
