Though the listener should appreciate the intention of these guys to praise Lord Krishna, it will be a more or less uneasy (even unharmonical) trip. Pleasing moments are hard to find through the whole record, as the instruments are separately tootling beneath any song-alike harmony in their own far (session?) heavens. The lyrics are in original Sanskrit, but neither in their ancient intonation and rhythm, nor in their later bhakti melodies, so the vocalist annoys from the first tone with untalented western singer's yowling.Maybe this record earns some points for its almost keen experimentalism, for its odd free-jazz-touch, but for me, as a fan of bhajans, kirtans, Vedic recitation, classical Indian music, AND the touching and somewhat devoted merges of Indian sound sources and prog/psychedelic rock that came out in hippie-eras, it's simply poor. Probably this record isn't meant to be entertainment for private listeners, maybe it's just for Lord Krishna. As in bhakti it's the attempt and the devotion that counts, so at least Bhagvan himself might ...well, have a content listening, when his devotees put this record on the player during puja.
Is musical disharmony really a tool to awake this state or feeling?
We all know that this records are made Only to awake the Krishna consciousness on the western society. I think All of them has qualities at different levels. Can only say, pick’em up every time you see one!!
