Ive never been a fan of Sean Magee but his efforts shine through here, for good and bad. There is a great deal of deapth and clarity here, on that front I dont think you can do much better for the sound. But my main gripes come in 2 forms of harsh edging / sibilance and lack of low end. Some vocals and strings could have been cleaned up and tamed a bit more but even if the pressing can sound bright I dont think its too much so per say. The problem with many modern reissues is the focus on bringing in detail, but what you end up doing is creating sharper sound instead. The way to combat the issue is not to simply recess the high end so you end up with no improvement but to bring out more of the low end as well. Balance is important, and while I might be biased as a bass loving freak I think bringing out more of it at least on certain tracks would have made this into a much more enjoyable and possibly must have reissue. Its still a good one for what it is but it just makes me wonder what a first press would be like.My copy sadly also has some nasty crackling at times even after RCM cleaning.
