Aaron Funk can probably toss this stuff off in his sleep, but this is still a fun record. The first side starts out as a typical drum & bass workout before unexpectedly turning into some kind of mutant polka — maybe pulled from the discount bin, like the name suggests. Good for confusing unsuspecting listeners. The second side is a catchy hunk of ragga jungle that builds up to a breakcore freakout. Recommended.

In principle, ragga-jungle was okay, the only reprimand is that polka was unnecessary.

Your comment is hilariously snobby! “In principle, ragga-jungle was ok....” and then to go further and opine that “that polka was unnecessary.”You must be oblivious to Aaron Funk’s proclivities towards random silly shit. Have your opinion but don’t assume it is valid and has any sway :-)

2 tracks of mind fuck ragga core breakbeat polka tracks from the guy who seems to be the buzz of just about every genre related list I can think of. Immense crossover appeal as this one is selling to the hip hop crowd, the jungle crowd, the ragga crowd, the chin-stroking idm crowd etc... we like it here, but don't expect to hear good things about it in Kerrang. They still think Great White and Def Leppard are cutting edge and didn't see the humour in sampling ragga covers of Men At Work hits.

Today's top producer Aaron Funk aka Venetian Snares tries his hand at a Ragga/Jungle style, or rather, he adds these influences to his trademark maniacal Breakcore, with amazing results. You know you need this...
