I bought this CD for the Rococo Variations and Shostakovich piece, but I have discovered a cello concerto by a composer I didn't know anything about, Miaskovsky and what a discovery! It prompted me to browse the Internet for more information about the composer and the work.

Nikolai Myaskovsky composed his Cello Concerto in C minor, Op. 66, during the years 1944-45.
The concerto is in two movements:
Lento ma non troppo - Andante - Tempo I
Allegro vivace - Piu marcato - Meno mosso - Tempo I
The total duration of the concerto amounts to about 25 minutes. The piece is among the late works of the composer, and its melodies appear in several Russian folk songs.

By coincidence, it is 38 years today that Shostakovich died, on 9th August 1975, and 63 years yesterday that Miaskovsky died, on 8th August 1950, so I will be playing the CD later as tribute to these two great composers!
As for the performer....you really can't go wrong with Julian Lloyd Webber, 1st class playing as always!
