Crate digging my own LP collection and had totally for gotten about this LP. I remember buying it in the late 80's mainly for the tracks Last Of The Wicked Romancers and Can't Keep My Hands To Myself which are great examples of mid-tempo early 80's soul but the tune of the LP is Candidate For Love without a doubt. I can't really give a better description than the other review. You just need to listen to it with the volume turned up, it's disco with an early 80's feel but without the 80's funk of Boogie tracks. It's actually only got one duff track on it. A quality album which covers all the bases but well worth buying just for Candidate. Play that tune loud, it's a classic.

Like many jazz artists turned R&B muscians, T.S. Monk was just another name in a long list who by the late 70's had switched to the popular disco format. Along with Tom Browne, George Duke and Roy Ayers, they had left behind the jazz scene to the anger of many critics who dubbed them as sell-outs. Be that as it may, the music they made from 77-83 was their best ever. And although I love jazz, disco is way more fun. House of Music was the first album for T.S. Monk, who got his start in music by playing in his father's band. In the 1979, Monk got together his sister Barbara and singer Yvonne Fletcher, who he was dating at the time to form his trio. They hit it off right away with the LP that was named after Monk's New Jersey home because his family was always playing music in the house. The best songs on this album are "Can't Keep My Hands To Myself" and "Candidate For Love", which starts off as if you've just boarded an elevator to sky. These two songs are quintessential early 80's dance trax that have re-written the rules for disco. Sadly, T.S. Monk fell apart in 1983 when sister Barbara Monk and Yvonne Fletcher both died of cancer, devastating Thelonius Monk Jr., who had just lost his father the year before. Since then he has recorded a 1985 album with Eric Mercury (Merc And Monk) and in the early 90's went back to jazz music by forming a new T.S. Monk band.
