I seriously rate this song. One of Norman Whitfield's finest. Norman could crank out superior psychedelic funk by the yard at this point in the '70s. I like a song that tells a story, the lyrics and melody combine really well on this tune about a young man who dreams of pop stardom:

"He don't wanna go to school no more/
Won't do his household chores/
But I must admit the neighbours dig his sound"

The Jackson 5 made a decent stab of the song on The Jackson 5ive* - Get It Together with great ensemble vocals, and at seven minutes plus it goes into an extended funky jam .... but the best version by far is this one by The Undisputed Truth.

I don't know why the song isn't better known, just one of those things I guess. Maybe I have strange tastes.
