Notes
When Columbia began its reissue series Columbia Jazz Masterpieces in the 1980s, the label produced a series of LP and individual CD anthologies for broadcast use, with spoken introductions for each track. Volumes IV, V and VI were issued individually and later compiled into a 3 CD set, with each track introduced by pianist Dave Brubeck, providing background about the selection. This boxed set was sent to radio stations intended for broadcast and were not sold commercially. There are no lists of personnel, composer/lyricist credits or track timings, though each track references the specific album reissue from which it was taken. Marked Demonstration/Not For Sale on the tray card and individual discs.Aside from tracks marked introduction and conclusion, Dave Brubeck talks about the featured artist or band, labeled as "Conversation About..." The one exception is track 1-5, where he discusses the composer, George Gershwin, instead of the featured artist, Sarah Vaughan.
